15 Best Beaches in Puglia: A Guide for Sea Lovers
Puglia's coastline runs for over 800km along the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The terrain changes dramatically from north to south: the Gargano Peninsula has dramatic white limestone cliffs and cave-cut coves; the Salento heel has long stretches of fine sand and warm, shallow water. The best beaches here are genuinely world-class — comparable to the Caribbean in clarity, with good Italian food within walking distance.
We've ranked the 15 best beaches in Puglia based on four criteria: beauty, access & location, amenities, and water quality — each scored out of 10.
When to Visit Puglia's Beaches
- May–June: Warm, uncrowded, best prices. Water reaches 22–24°C by late May.
- July–August: Peak season. Beaches crowded, prices high, beach clubs often require advance booking.
- September–October: Best overall combination — warm water (still 24–26°C in September), thinner crowds, lower prices.
- November–April: Off-season. Most beach clubs closed, but the coast is peaceful and the inland towns are excellent.
